RESEARCH TOOLS – Start your research here with vintage Island newspapers, village records from the 1800s, historic house histories, and more.

THE ISLAND’S HISTORIC HOUSES – The entire Island is on the National Register of Historic Places, and every really old building was part of that designation. Curious about the history of a house? This is the place to satisfy your curiosity.

VILLAGE RECORDS – Village records 1890-1899 and township minutes 1865-1883. Lots of fun stuff to read. Interesting to see how this community regulated their lives.

ISLAND NEWSPAPERS – Unlike many communities, Kelleys Island has had a remarkable history of people stepping up to chronicle and share this Island’s news. Here are some of these newspapers. Unfortunately, we are missing a few issues – so if you have any, let us know so we can scan them and include them.
Be patient – it will take a while to get these all uploaded

The Islander – 1860-1877 – Published during each winter, the Islander contained hundreds of pages of Island news. Only two issues are missing from the collection. Because of the size of the collection, these pages have not been scanned; however, they are available on microfilm in the Sandusky and Kelleys Island libraries and at the Western Reserve Historical Society Library in Cleveland.
Almost all the content of this newspaper has been transcribed and can be found within the pages of Leslie’s history books.
